What murder/drama movie is this?

A guy murders his cheating wife and switched his gun with the detectives gun so he can't be sentenced for attempted murder because there is no proof. Then when he pulls the plug on his wife, the prosecutor figures out that he switched the gun, and under California rule he can now charge him for Murder.
