Which movie is this...?

I don't have much information on it, but I remember watching it at least four years ago. It was about a young boy who somehow came upon a lot of money, which a man or a group of men were coming after him for. It starts out around a railroad track and a pale sky, possibly behind some isolated houses on the outskirts of a city. The film is set around Christmas, and at one point the boy is hiding in an attic hiding from a man who had broken into his house after he had just run home from a Christmas play he had acted in. At one point, Carol of the Bells plays in the background. The boy's name could have been something like Max or Maximilian. Sorry about the lack of details!
